Abstract

The effect of N – furfuryl – N'– phenyl thiourea (FPTU) on the corrosion behavior of stainless steel type 304 in 1 N HCl solution has been investigated by potentiodynamic polarization techniques. The results obtained reveal that FPTU is an efficient mixed inhibitor with greater than 92 % of efficiency in the range of temperature studied. The inhibitor functions through adsorption following Temkeins adsorption isotherm and the inhibition is governed by physisorption mechanism. The thermodynamic parameters deduced for the adsorption process reveal a strong interaction and spontaneous adsorption of the compound on the alloy steel surface.
