Abstract

political advertisements in newspapers prior to the 2009 elections played an important part in shaping electorate opinion and highlighting party issues because of the easy availability and access of the medium.the times of india and the hindu rank among the top 5 english dailies in india according to the Indian readership survey (IRS)report.Being the two leading dailies in india with different political sumpathies,a study of print political advertisements in both these paers will provide us with valuable insight into the political advertising scenario prior to the loksabha elections.the method of analysis chosen for the study is qualitative content analysis,semiotic in particular.
