Abstract
Studies have shown improved cellular adhesion, calcium phosphate mineralization, and gene delivery achieved by phosphorylated derivative of chitosan. In paraller, role of phosphoproteins, phospholipids, proteoglycans and phosphoglycans in regulating many of these cellular responses is increasingly bing elucidated. Thus biocompatible hydrogel of phosponic chitosan (PC) may prove to be an useful analogue of the phosphomacromolecules. This work is a first time report on the gelation of PC by genipin (G) a non-toxic crosslinker.
