Abstract

There have been various examples where the children have been engaged in local governance around the world.in india there are examples from Karnataka and Maharashtra states,where there has been positive experience with mechanisms such as makkala and bal panchayats.the recent historic order by the government of Karnataka mandating all panchayats to provide opportunities for children to articulate their issues directly through elected representatives and to report back on action taken also needs mention.this is a study based on the kundapur (Karnataka state)based makkala panchayat(children;s local self government)as a case of participatory communication.
