Abstract
The factor of safety against sliding for a given slope gives and indication of the stability of the slope. In the present work, stability of layered soil is studied. The factor of safety of a given surface for the slope is determined using Janbus’s (1973) method. Genetic Algorithm (GA) is used as a search technique to locate the critical slip surface of a given slope. The effect of various GA parameters (Population size, number of generations, crossover probability and mutation probability) of the solution is made and the results are tabulated.
