Abstract

In this paper, the analysis and design of reinforced earth wall has been carried out for cohesion less backfill. A simple pseudo- static rigid body analytical mode is used. The failure surface is assumed to be coulomb’s plane (wedge) failure or bilinear. The forces in the reinforcements are evaluated using limit equilibrium approach. The length of the reinforcements required to maintain the equilibrium of the wedge is calculated based on the pull-out resistance of the reinforcements extending beyond the failure plane. The results obtained from coulomb’s plane failure analysis are compared with bilinear failure surface analysis.
