Abstract
Ritual suicide is the act of suicide motivated by a religious, spiritual, or traditional rituals and practices. There are several types of ritual suicide described in literature. There are other ritual suicides which were common in the past, nevertheless, occasional instances of them are still observed in recent times. There is a great overlap in the reasons underlying these ritual suicides. A PUBMED and GOOGLE search was undertaken using key word "ritual suicide" and was supplemented with manual search. The relevant literature is summarized in the present review.
