Abstract
Kinetics of titanium (III) reduction of furfuraldoxime (FAO) and α-furil dioxime (α-FDO) were studied in an aqueous sulphuric acid-ethanol medium in the temperature range of 298-313 K. The reduction products have been isolated and characterized as a Schiff base of salicyladehyde. Cyclic voltammetric sensing of furfuraldoxime under the kinetic conditionc demonstrated its reduction behavior. The kinetic investigations were performed under stoichiometric and nin-stoichiometric conditions, by varying the concentration of reductant, oxidant, sulphuric aicd and solvent. It has been found tha the reaction folloes overall kinetic order of 2.5, first order each in titanium (III) and furfuraldoxime or α-furil dioxime and fractional order in sulphuric acid. The termperature dependence of the rate was also studied and the activation parameters were computed using the Arrhenium and Eyring plots. A suitabke kinetic scheme consistent with the observed resulst is suggested and discussed.
