A base isolated multi-storey space frame structure subjected to bi-directional harmonic ground excitation is analyzed by considering all the six degrees of freedom (three translations along x, y, z-axes and three rotations about these axes) at each node.The total degrees of freedom of the structure in this idealization are 6 x n, where n is the number of nodes. The effect of isolation damping on the response of multi-storey space frame structure resting on laminated rubber bearing is studied.It is found from the study that the higher damping can reduce the acceleration and base shear of the structure only when the input frequency is close to the natural frequency of the isolation system. It is also found that the base displacement of the structure decreases with the increase in isolation damping. The reduction in the displacement with increase in damping is more when frequency of excitation is equal to the fundamental natural frequency of base isolated structure.
