Abstract
Pelvic arteriovenous malformations are relatively uncommon entity, when they do, they occur more common in uterine myometrium. They clinically manifest as heavy vaginal bleeding, which may be postpartum, postabortion, or menstrual and are difficult to diagnose by routine imaging techniques. Colour Doppler has emerged not only as one of the important diagnostic tools, but also to monitor treatment response. We discuss a case of postabortal bleeding due to acquired uterine arteriovenous malformation (AVM) secondary to surgical curettage for first trimester incomplete abortion, diagnosed by Doppler sonography, confirmed on angiography, which responded promptly to uterine artery embolization. Doppler also proved indispensable to monitor the embolization effect on AVM.
