Abstract
Objective: The aim of the present study was to investigate the efficacy of intravenous insulin infusion for treatment of hyperemesis gravidarum.Study Design: Hundred women with hyperemesis gravidarum were enrolled in the study. They were treated with intravenous fluid infusions and randomly with insulin.Results: The results show that the mean stay in the hospital was significantly shorter and readmission to the hospital were none in the insulin group as compared to the non-insulin group .There was a significant reduction in nausea and vomiting in the insulin group on day 1and day 2 than for the other group. Conclusion: The addition of insulin to intravenous fluids in the treatment for women with hyperemesis gravidarum is effective in reducing nausea and vomiting as well as hospital stay.
