Abstract
Seismic response of a multi-storey space frame structure resting on lead rubber bearing (non-linear rubber bearing), subjected to bi-directional Turkey earthquake ground motion are studied by considering all the six degrees of freedom (three translations along x, y, z-axes and three rotations about these axes) at each node. A step-by-step Newmark’s method is adopted to solve the equation of dynamic equilibrium. Comparison of response is made in terms of accelerations, displacements and forces in order to investigate the effectiveness of the isolation system. The response of isolated system is found to be less in comparison to the corresponding response without isolation system, implying that the isolation is quite effective in reducing acceleration and forces of the system. It is also found that the displacement at top and base of the isolated structure are almost same at all time intervals. This indicates that the structure moves rigidly during earthquake.
