Abstract
The telluro cluster Fe2Te2(CO)9 has been used as a starting block for the synthesis of a number of mixed metal complexes of the general form Fe2MTe2(CO)6 (PPh3)2, M = Pt, Pd, Ni, as well as a novel higher nuclearity telluro ruthenium cluster. The mechanism in a majority of the reactions of Fe2Te2(CO)9 involves the formation of the adduct Fe3Te2(CO)9L, L=CO, PPh3.The adduct readily undergoes substitution of the Fe(CO)3L fragment by incoming , new metal fragments. The reactive dinuclear molecule, Fe2Te2(CO)6 readily adds coordinatively unsaturated triosmium or triruthenium fragments to give the novel clusters , Fe2Os3Te2(CO)17 and Fe2Ru3Te2(CO)17. The activation of carbene ligands on Fe3Te2(CO)9 has been studied and the new bis methylidene complex, Fe2Te2(CO)6(CH2)2 has been prepared.
