Dynamic response of a multi-storey plane frame structure having three degrees of freedom (two translations along x, y -axes and one rotations about z-axis) at each node, with multiple tuned mass dampers (MTMDs) on its top is obtained. MTMDs with uniformly distributed frequencies are considered for this purpose. The effect of frequency spacing of the dampers and excitation frequency on the effectiveness of the MTMDs is also studied. The response of structure with MTMDs is found to be less in comparison to the corresponding response without MTMDs, implying that the MTMDs is effective in reducing acceleration, forces and displacement in the structure. It is also found that there exists an optimum value of frequency range parameter for which effectiveness of MTMDs is maximum.
