Abstract

In the present article, potential of a bilayer organic solar cell has been investigated. We utilize newly synthesized small molecules, namely dibenzo[f,h] thieno [3,4-b] quinoxaline as electrondonorsfor solar cells inheterojunctionbilayerconfiguration.Thesesmallmoleculeswithanarrowabsorptionbandin the range400–450nm provide acomplementaryspectrumforthefullereneC70, therebyleadingtoan overallpowerconversionefficiencyof2.670.2%under100mW/cm2 incidentradiation.Thermal annealingseemstoimpactthechargeseparationatthedonor–acceptorinterface,whicheventually affectsdeviceperformance.Thisworkdemonstratesthatcarefullyoptimizedbilayerdevicesare comparabletothebulkheterojunctioncounterparts.
