This paper presents an insight into the exploration of a rural population’s health status using data mining techniques. Public health departments in India focus on the health of women during pregnancy and the health status of children under the age of five. The study has been carried out on the data collected by a few rural maternal and child welfare homes in Udupi taluk, Karnataka. These welfare homes are administered and managed by the Department of Community Medicine, Kasturba Medical College , Manipal. An association rule mining technique has been used to study the impact of family history, lifestyle, social and economic conditions on pregnancy. A similar analysis had been performed to determine if family history, lifestyle, socioeconomic conditions effect the birth weight and current weight of children.
