Chronic kidney disease(CKD)is becoming a major public health problem worldwide. CKD is the 12th leading cause of death and 17th cause of disability.1Food is equivalent or more important than medicine for a person with CKD. Non-adherence with the dietary regulations can result in chronically elevated serum levels of phosphate, which play an important role in the development of secondary hyperparathyroidism and renal osteodystrophy.2 Elevated levels of phosphate also may increase coronary artery disease, even in young patients,3 leading to a significantly increased risk for mortality.4,5
