MRI of the breast is a non – invasive technique performed to evaluate the presence of any lesion with in the breast. Classic breast MRI is based on the enhancement pattern of the lesion and observation of morphological details after the intravenous administration of contrast media. At present, breast MRI is performed as an adjunct to the standard diagnostic procedure like clinical examination, mammography & ultrasonography. It has a sensitivity of 79.5% and specificity of 89.8% which makes it an essential modality of choice as a screening tool for early detection of breast cancer.
