Abstract

There has been concern in recent years regarding the efficiency and effectiveness of the various techniques used while marketing horticultural crops in India. The efficiencies and inadequacies of the initiatives and efforts put in by various agencies are ultimately resulting in high prices for these crops on the one hand and also violent fluctuations in retail prices quoted to the consumer on the other. Further, only a small pie of the price paid by the consumer is reaching the farmers. Marketing of horticultural crops is a complex activity especially because of perishability, seasonality and bulkiness of these crops.
