Felix Hoffmann, a German chemist of Bayer modified Salicylic acid to produce acetic acid ester of Salicylic acid known as Acetyl Salicylic acid. He administered the same compound to his father who was suffering from arthritis. This was named Aspirin, and is being used for more than a century. Although Bayer was established in 1863, Aspirin was the first synthetic drug produced in 1897, Felix Hoffmann, a German chemist of Bayer.
