Abstract

The inhibition effect of propanoyl(1Z)-N-(2-hydoxyphenyl)-2-oxopropane hydrazonoate (PHOH) and Propanoyl(1E)-N-(2-acetylphenyl)-2-oxopropane hydrazonoate (PAOH) on the corrosion of 6061 Al alloy/SiCp composite in 0.5 M hydrochloric acid solution at 30°C has been investigated using potentiostatic polarization technique and weight loss method. The results obtained reveal that PHOH and PAOH are efficient cathodic inhibitors with greater than 96% of efficiency. The adsorption of the inhibitors on the composite surface was found to obey Temkins’ adsorption isotherm and the inhibition is governed by physisorption mechanism.
