The article tries to explain the relationship of the traditional houses of bunts in south Kanara with the landscape, climate and culture of the people. The position of the community in the village, the occupation and the rituals shaped the various zones of the house. Also landform and landscape gave the setting which responded to climate and occupation of the place. The book attempts to situate the prominent community of the region in the historical and socio-cultural contexts of the region and country. The book explores the images of the community in historical sources and in many impressive material survivals, its adhesive cultural patterns and patented cultural idioms and it also presents some snap shots of its portrayals in the living folklore of Tulunadu.
