Abstract

Spatial configuration is related to the nature of society and the settlement is believed to be a reflection of the community that inhabits it then mental maps and identity of settlement is related with spatial configuration of built forms. The aim is to see if the level of connectivity and visual link has an impact on the mental mapping of the town structure by the inhabitant. The paper tries to identify the morphology of Barkur town in terms of spatial syntax in terms of organization principles. This is superimposed with the findings of questionnaire and maps sketched by people to describe the town by the inhabitants. In this way we are trying to identify the grammar of 811 years old living town of Barkur.
