Abstract

Fast growth of technology & development within the infrastructure & Construction industry India's has been witnessing host of environmental challenges. The construction industry in India is one of the largest economic activities and is growing at an average rate of 9.5% as compared to the global average of 5%. With this growth accompanied is the increasing atmospheric concentrations of greenhouse gases,which alter radiative balances and tend to warm the atmosphere, and, in some regions, aerosols-which have an opposite effect on radiative balances and tend to cool the atmosphere. Growing concern to achieve Sustainability & Carbon neutral solution has become an mandate to overcome the hann caused due to either over specification of buildings or reduced attention to the resultant building performance, where in the social, economic, and enviromnental consequences of commercial development are given minimal consideration. However, the impacts of over-specification, such as poor indoor air quality, sick building syndrome, acid rain, and high toxic particulate con<;:entrationin the air, is demanding high attention.With the Kyoto protocol legally binding targets and timetables for controlling the GHG emissions of industrialized countries that ratified, Carbon trading has been major economic driver for business from market perspective.This paper is a review of the effectiveness of construction industry attaining zero energy discharge & reduced Carbon foot print of its buildings & thereon the carbon trading in the industry.
