A majority of the identified extragalactic sources in the g ray catalogs of Fermi and EGRET are blazars. They are characterized by large variations in intensity and spectra across the electromagnetic waveband.It is believed that the jets emerging from blazars are almost aligned to the line of sight.Based on optical property, blazars can be divided into two types, namely, flat spectrum radio quasars (FSRQ) and BL Lacs.It has been observed that FSRQs exhibit higher luminosity and a steeper spectra in g ray than BL Lacs. We attempt to explain the high energy properties of blazars using the Fermi-Gamma Ray Space Telescope observations.On the derivation of intrinsic luminosities after correction for beaming effects, it was observed that the difference in luminosity between the two classes was significantly reduced. In order to explain the difference in intrinsic luminosities, we propose that the spin of the black hole plays a significant role in the dichotomy of luminosity distribution of BL Lacs and FSRQs.
