Abstract
Autopilot designed for an aircraft should involve simple design and a mode transition logic that involves no confusion. Theflow of early mode transition logic for autopilot was complex which led to major confusion leading to accidents. In this paper a simple logic called the array based logic technique is usedfor designing the autopilot mode transition logic for fighter aircraft in lateral direction. Any number of transitions can be easily specified in a tabular column and these transitions are bounded by specific criteria before engaging any of the autopilot modes. MA TLAB and C# software is used to give a frame work for possible transitions between various autopilot modes. X-Plane simulator software is used to simulate real - world performance of an aircraft and all the live parameters are fed to Systems Tool Kit (STK) software for visualizing and analyzing the changes that occur during various autopilot mode transitions.
