Abstract

As the complexity of power system is increasing the various problems associated with the system are also increasing. Estimating the margin in the loadability of the power system is essential in the real time voltage stability assessment. Due to the stressed condition the occurrence of voltage collapse may happen and this leads to total block out of the system. Voltage stability is currently one of the most important research areas in the field of electrical power system. This paper compares the effectiveness of voltage stability indices in providing information about the proximity of voltage instability of a power system. The comparison of the performances of these indices is presented and the effectiveness of the analyzed methods is demonstrated through simulation studies in IEEE test systems.
