Abstract
The article attempts to compile the encounters and impressions of the Basel Missionaries in Dakshina Kannada and their descriptions of the Tulu land, the Tulu language, the Tulu people and their customs, occupations, religion and culture. Excerpts from the English as well as German reports and extracts from diaries as well as publications in German newsletters have been compiled with observations on the views of the missionaries.
