Abstract
Any medicine made from parts of plant either in the crude form or by extracting the active ingredients that possess therapeutic properties and is used for the treatment of one or more ailments is termed as Herbal medicine and “herbalism” refers to the study of herbal medicines. There is general belief that all herbal medicines are safe. However, there are a few reports of adverse drug reactions which have triggered safety concerns. There exists pharmacovigilance system but hardly implemented and moreover many practitioners and pharmacists’ are not aware of a pharmacovigillance system. There is a dire need to conduct training programmes to practitioners and pharmacists.
