The essential oil of Citrus aurantium obtained by steam distillation was screened for antimicrobial activity against Escherichia coli, Pseudomonas aeruginosa, Bacillus subtilis, Klebsiella pneumoniae, Bacillus cereus, Proteus vulgaris, Staphylococcus aureus, Salmonella typhi, Salmonella paratyphi, Vibrio cholerae, Candida albicans, and Aspergillus niger by disc agar diffusion technique. The essential oil isolated from Citrus aurantium demonstrated significant antimicrobial activity, but the micro-organisms tested showed different sensitivities.
