Abstract
Intentional or unintentional exposure to plants and plantproducts can have potentially harmful effects. Even the plants and their alkaloids with known medicinal value are associated with serious morbidity and mortality. Colchicum, is one such plant that is rich in alkaloid colchicine, used in the treatment of a number of diseases. poisoning due to ingestion of the parts of colchicum plant has reportedly led to fatal outcomes. colchicine even when used as a drug has a naruow therapeutic index; thus, is advised to be taken under strict medical supervision. However, cases of drug overdose and toxicity are not uncommon. The present paper reviews the clinicopathologicals aspects associated with colchicine poisoning.
