Abstract

Nana hydroxyapatite (Nana-HA) and Mineral Trioxide Aggregate (MfA) because of j/s beller qualities can be used as an alternative to calcium hydroxide in direct pulp capping procedures. The aim of the study was /0 compare the response of exposed human pulp /0 Nano-HA, Mineral Trioxide Aggregate and calcium hydroxide. Study design: The stud)' was done on 30 premolars, ranging/rom patients between J /-/5 years. intentional pulp capping 1ms done using one of the experimental materials. The ex/raeted teeth were Ihen subjected 10 staimng procedure and evaluated for dentin bridge and plllpal response after J 5 and 30 days. InlrU5'-UI'!' ,·,,,IIII,,,-i,')1I\' of Ihe observed vallle~' were (I'wlyzf!d /Ising Chi-square tesl. Results: Nano-HA ulld ;.,ITA pruJuu:d conlinuous deJ1lin bridges. Dentin bridge that was formed ill MTA group had regular pui/t;r/J ul Jt;fI,i,lu; lubult:s bulllO tl/bules were seen in/he Ila/lo-HA group. Dentin bridge was nol observed in Dyeal f!roUf) (or the I j days period in majority oflhe sample alld by 30 days dentin bridge was observed J;wl wu~ ;;:..;:h con:;,;uOlls and interrupted in equal number of samples. The inilial inflammatory response and necrosis was more wirh Nano-HA and calcium hydroxide which reduced wirh time. Conclusion: MfA showed no injlammatory changes in majority oflhe samples in both the study periods. Necrosis was least observed in MfA group followed by Nano-HA. Vascularity increased in Nano-HA group in Ihe initial periods which reduced with increasing lime. Based on the ability of nano-HA to produce complete dentinal bridges, favorable cellular and vascular response, the material could be considered as an substitute and could be tried used as a direct pulp capping agent.
