Abstract
The term social networking may be new, but the base for social media, i.e. the concept of sharing content, interacting and collaborating with others was there for the libraries from their inception. The working of libraries has been influenced by the development of technology and similarly the presence of libraries on social sites gives visibility and makes them reachable. The modern day users are spending a lot of time on social sites. The libraries by being present on Facebook, Twitter, Flickr and other social media site can remain in contact with their users providing them with the information without logging out their favourite sites. The librarians and users can interact and share the information through social networking sites. The article will present the descriptive study of the benefits and drawbacks of social media in a library environment and the useful features of social sites for the libraries. The technology is changing and so the approach to access the information. The approach of libraries to serve its users using social media is a need of the day.
