Abstract
Increasing demand for minimally invasive surgical approaches is in requirement of technologically enhanced devices. Tortuousity of the vessel is one of the most dangerous variations causing high risk of trapping of the device or injury to the vessel during transluminal catheterization. We report here in a case of unilateral anatomical variation in the iliac artery, in which the right common iliac artery was looped and its external iliac branch had a kink at its commencement thus making it tortuous. Arterial cannulation in cardiac catheterization is preferably done through the femoral artery, which is in necessity of close attention as the cannulation is required to gain access through the tortuous external iliac artery. Also, in endovascular repair of abdominal aortic aneurysms, tortuous iliac arterial system may produce adverse affects of breakup of the device within the vessel and arterial trauma.
