Abstract

We report a rare case of 15-year-old pregnant lady who attempted suicide by ingesting an unknown amount of blue coloured Copper sulphate crystals. On admission to the hospital, she had symptoms and signs of severe hemorrhagic gastroenteritis, dehydration, renal dysfunction and methaemoglobinaemia with normal blood parameters. Therapeutic measures were followed as per the standard hospital protocol. Unfortunately, the patient succumbed while on treatment and a medico-legal autopsy was conducted. This case depicts important gross and histopathological changes in such an irritant metallic poison, which is important for definitive diagnosis.
