Abstract

Medicine prices of patented medicine are exorbitantly expensive. Affordability for the poor is a challenge in the health care delivery system. In developing countries where poverty looms over majority of the people, high prices of medicine are a socio economic issue for governments and patients. There is a need for making new medicines affordable for the patients in developing economies, especially medicines that are lifesaving. On the other hand the MNC Pharma industry is showing disregard to the health of millions of patients as they are not addressing the affordability issue of the patented medicines. There is need to modernize the patent system so that medicines become affordable for the patients.
