Abstract

Metal matrix composites (MMCs) have been found to possess tremendous prospective engineering applications that require materials offering a combination of lightweight with considerably enhanced mechanical and physical properties. However, the use of cutting fluids on machining operations has been questioned, due to problems they may cause to the environment, due to damage to human health and also more due to the severe laws regarding industrial waste that have been passed. Therefore, industries are being forced to review the production processes aiming either, at elimination or, when it is not possible, a sharp reduction in the use of these fluids. In this work, Steam generator and steam feeding system was developed to generate and feed steam. The effects of lubrication condition such as steam, compressed air and dry cutting at different depth of cut, constant feed and cutting speed on surface roughness in turning of AA6061-15vol.% SiC 25μm particle size hardened to 67-94 BHN, with Cubic boron nitride inserts (CBN) KB-90 grade have been investigated
