Abstract
Recent studies have shown immense potential of biopolymer (chitosan, gelatin, alginate etc.) based beads for controlled drug delivery, management of cancer, tissue engineering application. However, the stability of the beads as carrier matrix often suffers problem. Forming crosslinks improves mechanical stability of the beads and decreases hydrophilicity. Further, it slows down the rate of permeation and subsequently the rate of drug diffusion from the matrix. Present work focuses on designing and characterizing a cross-linked bead matrix by using egg albumin. The primary aim is to design the beads in the most economical way without compromising the effectiveness of the matrix.
