Abstract

In olden days cooking was done by fire wood combustion (open fire) but after industrial revolution (later half of the eighteenth century) inventors invents the number of inventions about this field. They are fire wood, Kerosene, electrical energy, L.P.G, etc. The mission of this study is to develop an energy infrastructure directed towards the satisfaction of energy needs of the common people in pursuing of petroleum products (LPG) and Electricity. Keeping this in the mind it is required to get an idea about the quantity of fuel utilized, the temperature attained and time consumed to boil the rice using different fuels are very essential. The fuels used here are LPG, Kerosene and Wood. The experiments were conducted by using these fuels for cooking the given quantity of rice in Pressure cooker of 3 liter capacity was used. The thermocouple is attached to measure the temperature. The time taken to cook the rice is noted by using a stop watch and the amount of fuel consumed. The results are compared with the usage of solar energy and the advantage of solar energy is discussed. Solar technology offers great strategy in terms of supplying the world’s energy needs. However, its current contribution to the world is still limited. The main factor is related to high initial cost of building the system. This paper will provide a review of solar concentrators and their benefits to make the solar technology . For efficient utilization of solar energy, focusing type paraboloidal solar collector is designed and developed with maximum temperature of 250°C was obtained under no load conditions in bright sunshine hours. In the present energy crisis scenario, it is necessary to exploit new and renewable energy sources which are available locally at almost free of cost.
