Abstract

Web-scale discovery service is bringing a new promise for the students, faculties and libraries, an excellent tool for a better information retrieval. A single search box can search across the huge collection of library’s subscribed content. More specifically discovery services promising a one-stop-shopping experience to the academic library users the way Google does. One-stop-shop is a tool to search across the valuable content of a library. As academic libraries are providing vast repositories of content, it needs an accessible, intuitive interface holding the potential to greatly facilitate the research process. This paper tried to highlight some important steps involved in the evaluation process of Web-scale discovery services before selection and implementation for their library resources. This paper further tried to give some internal and external steps that library could consider during the process of evaluation of Web-scale discovery service.
