Abstract

Distillation is the most important separation method in the chemical and petrochemical industries. A calculation procedure for nonlinear modeling of a distillation column based on energy balance is introduced in which the reflux rate ‘L’ and the boil-up rate ‘V’ are used as inputs to control the outputs of the purity of the distillate overhead and the impurity of the bottom products. Then we have applied MIT Rule in a SISO system which will be further extended to MIMO system by taking a reference model for a model-reference adaptive control (MRAC).
