The present technical institutions are essentially creatures of industrial revolution struggling to survive in the information age. Technical institutions exist to meet the needs and/or wants of individuals, organizations and the social institutions in their external environment. Several researchers have investigated the appropriateness of using the principles of TQM to the field of technical education to attain a higher level of quality in technical education. At the same time, researchers are now trying to apply the KM principles into technical education to identify, capture, retrieve, share and evaluate its information assets to improve the quality of education. Considering the above dual paradigm in technical education, this paper tries to focus on the integrated approach that incorporates KM into TQM processes/practices in technical education. It gives a systematic approach to apply Zhao and Bryar’s integration model of KM and TQM to technical education. The paper deals with the point “how” organizational excellence can be achieved through incorporating KM concepts into the TQM process, which forms a continuous cycle of improvement and development. The article identifies the suppliers & inputs, customers & outputs, and the processes in the technical institution. The implementation of the KM and TQM integrated approach in technical education is also discussed.
