Abstract

Objective: To examine the; chang.e in menopausal symptoms and cardiovascular risk factors in response to 72 months of daily 75mg soy isoflavone. .. Methods: In this prospective stud", 31 women were assIgned to soy isoflavone treatment. The menopausal Kupperman index was used to cssess change in"menopcosotsyrnproms at baseline and after 12 months of treatment. Cardiovascular risk fact(j~s were assessed by evaluating lipid profile. Results: The data showed a decrease in menopausal symptoms (P<.001, between baseline and posttreatment period). High-density lipoprot~in increased significantly in the isoflavone group compared with the baseline (P =0.02). The isoflavone treatment had no effect on total cholesterol and low-density lipoprotein. Conclusion: This study suggests thatisoflavone 75 mg regime treo'tment .moybe a's<;Jfe and. effective alternative therapy for menopausal symptoms.
