Abstract
Comparison of least square and information cross-entropy minimization techniques are carried out in the case of optimal fitting of the Monte Carlo simulated response of a NaI(Tl) detector to prompt gammas, emitted from hydrogen, boron and carbon nuclei due to neutron interactions in a borated high density polyethylene cylinder, tomatch the energy dependent neutron fluence to ambient dose equivalent conversion coefficients. Least square, weighted least square and information cross-entropy minimization techniques are employed to estimate the coefficients of combination of the responses to arrive at an appropriate dose response curve. The relative merits of the techniques used are discussed in the context of prompt gamma based neutron dosimetry problem.
