Hence, it is important that medicines are available to patients which meets three primary parameters – Safety, Quality and Efficacy. Efficacy, including the correct dose and its permissible limits, is ensured through quality control checks during manufacturing operations popularly referred to as In Process Quality Control (IPQC). Quality, again, is ensured through IPQC. Safety of medicines is not only important to ensure during manufacturing operation but also during the supply in the market and till the time patient consumes it. In order to ensure safety, quality and efficacy of medicines, it is of utmost importance that proper packaging material is selected for any pharmaceutical dosage form – solid orals, liquid orals, parenteral preparations etc. As it is quite evident that if proper packaging material is not selected, there is a high probability of medicine getting deteriorated and becoming unsafe for consumption, even before its expiry.
