The idea of “automation” has existed for many years. Companies have developed automated systems of their own to control alarms, sensors, actuators and video cameras hence creating the automated buildings. These systems could not be easily installed as they require extensive changes to the existing electrical wiring of the home. The objective of this project is to design a home automation system that is flexible in terms of architecture and networking and also incorporating some intelligent features. In this proposed system user can communicate with the main controller via GSM, which further coordinates communication between the room controllers via ZigBee link. The system will be implemented on hardware with LED’s indicating the status of the devices in the room. Features such as motion detection, smoke sensing, temperature control and ambient light control along with wireless control via ZigBee and GSM can be implemented. Multiple rooms can be controlled with one main controller. This arrangement makes the home automation system cost effective and easy to install. So, our system can effectively automate the entire home and can be accessed from anywhere with mobile connectivity. Home automation is reaching a point where it’s becoming affordable and easy to access. The future scope of home automation lies with intelligent control and integration with mobile devices.
