The past decade has witnessed a significant breakthrough in the field of intelligent controllers. The field has been experiencing constant upgrades at a rate considered to be revolutionary. The fuzzy systems provided a simplified way of simulating human thinking. Many of the Fuzzy Logic based applications developed have been implemented on Field Programmable Gate Array (FPGA). Fuzzy control applications with the physical systems require a real-time operation to interface high speed constraints. Hence the Fuzzy Control applications are implemented on higher density programmable logic devices such as field programmable gate array (FPGA), which can integrate large amounts of logic in a single IC. This paper reviews the Fuzzy Logic based applications, systems developed on FPGA and finally the Fuzzy control applications implemented on FPGA. This paper starts with an overview of Fuzzy Logic followed by the state of the Art FPGA. An introduction on Lighting Control is presented. Review of the applications using Fuzzy Logic is presented, followed by a review of applications which have been implemented on FPGA. Fuzzy control applications which are implemented on FPGA’s are presented. Recent advances in the Lighting control are also presented in the tailing part of the paper. Finally, it is proposed to develop an Adaptive Fuzzy Logic Lighting Controller for an Industrial building and implement it on Re-configurable FPGA, which is first of its kind in the field of Lighting
