Abstract
The work documented in this paper gives a working knowledge of mapping the spectral lines in the emission spectra of physical objects to their corresponding wavelengths. In simpler terms RGB triplets in the spectrogram image are mapped to their corresponding wavelengths on the visible spectrum. Peaks of CIE RGB color matching functions are directly mapped one on one to peaks of the R, G and B intensity plots of the spectrogram. This methodology was tested on fluorescent lamps, white LED torch light, 100W Incandescent lamp and noon solar spectrum. The resulting spectrograms of the test light source were in close agreement with the respective theoretical references. Camera spectrometer is auto-calibrated and the need for a standard source during calibration is omitted
