Abstract

Workshop on Personal & Business Financial Planning - Scope & Opportunities by Mr. Raviraja Nayak, Associate Regional Manager, Business development, ICICI Prudential, Udupi Organized by Department of Allied Hospitality Studies, WGSHA, Manipal University The workshop was commenced with a discussion on “why financial and business planning?” Mr. Ravi Raja Nayak stated the basic reasons like inflation, rising life expectancy, protection of family, asset allocation etc. for why people need to focus on financial planning. Financial Planning starts with personal finance, which will then move to corporate finance. Mr. Raviraja explained most of the basic terminologies like liquidity, value, deficit, equity, debt, risks etc. in very detail. In his discussion of ‘Cash Flow Analysis’ which has both inflow and outflow analysis of money Mr.Raviraja mentioned that cash flow analysis is an excellent money management tool. He advised the students to look into the concepts like planning and investment and suggested that investment should always be planned based on the inflation rates. The major investment concerns are safety, liquidity and returns. He went in detail with the investment and returns policy too. Later, Mr. Raviraja briefed the students about business and project planning. Also He unfolded the concept of budgeting, which is the process of creating and following an explicit plan for effective financial self-evaluation and for measuring the actual financial performance of a business organization. Towards the end, Mr. Raviraja highlighted the importance of insuring the properties to ensure the safety of money value. The concept of risk in investment was understood in detail when the resourceperson explained the number of risks like market risk, tax risk, credit risk, inflation risk and the idea of financial risk management. At the end of workshop, the audience were given a risk assessment questionnaire and a personal financial planning booklet to work on and to evaluate. Asish Jindal of First MSc HTM welcomed the gathering. The function was concluded with Nikita Chopra of Msc. HTM First year proposing the vote of thanks. Total twenty one years of experience in metallurgical engineering, petroleum and insurance industries in production, sales, training and management with companies like Sandur Manganese and Iron Ores Limited Hospet , TECIL Chemicals and Hydro Power Limited, Kottayam, Reliance Industries Limited Mumbai and ICICI Prudential Life Insurance Company Limited. A limited academic experience includes short term teaching assignments and guest lecturing on Financial Marketing and Insurance Management in SDM College of Management, Manipal Institute of Management, Manipal, Justice KS Hegde Institute of Management Nitte, Sahyadri Institute of Management, Mangalore and Srinivas College Engineering and Management in Valacchil, Mangalore. Currently working as Associate Regional Manager – Business Development with ICICI Prudential Life Insurance Company Limited in Udupi
