Abstract

This study was conducted in order to understand the choice amongst youth in Manipal between fast food and traditional Indian food. The study was carried out in Manipal as it consists mostly of youth who represent different geographic locations and also is a completely student driven market. This was understood by conducting a questionnaire filled in by students of different departments and collected equally by both the genders. The findings from the survey suggest that most of the students eat out often skipping mostly dinner from hostel, with most of the students visiting fast food outlets on a regular basis. Convenience being one of the most important factor while eating out. It is also observed that choice amongst the students from different departments did not differ a lot, with most of them having a similar spending pattern. So given the rapid restaurants in number of local and international fast food outlets in Manipal , it would advisable for someone to concentrate on providing value for money and quality of food , rather than simply depending upon the brand and ambience .
